In 2025 The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has recorded an increase in global registries, including registration of applications for industrial designs. This indicates that companies and individual inventors are increasingly using WIPO systems to protect and promote their products on international markets.
The number of international patent applications under the Patent Cooperation Agreement (PCT) has been growing for the second year in a row – by 0.7% (compared to 2024) and amounted to 275,900 documents. Digital communications remain the predominant area – 11.1%. Significant places were occupied by computer technology (9.6%), as well as electrical engineering (9%), medical technology (6.3%) and pharmaceuticals (4.3%).
In the field of international trademark registration under the Madrid system, the class covering computer equipment and software, as well as other electrical and electronic equipment, remains the most in demand, accounting for 10.8% of the total number of applications. It is followed by such classes as В«Business servicesВ» (8.5%) and В«Scientific and Technological servicesВ» (7.9%).
The number of industrial designs in applications filed under The Hague system increased by 9.4% and reached a record high of 28,558 units. In 2025, recording equipment and communications equipment accounted for the largest share of applications (13.2%), followed by vehicles (8%), packaging and containers (7.9%).
In 2025, the WIPO Center for Arbitration and Mediation participated in the settlement of 1,461 disputes on intellectual property, innovation and technology, which is 70% more than in 2024.
