WIPO Specialized Course on the Essentials of Patents

The WIPO Academy on intellectual property conducts a free of charge specialized training course – DL170R – «The Essentials of Patents».

The course aims to provide a brief overview of the principles and economic role of patents and the international patenting process. It enables participants to assess the role of patents in facilitating the effective creation of technologies and technology transfer.

The course focuses on the following topics:

• international patent system and its macroeconomic significance;
• patent application process;
• types of intellectual property protection depending on the type of invention;
• legal aspects of the patenting process;
• effective rights enforcement;
• intellectual property and the promotion of development: flexibilities and the public domain in the context of patent law.

The training is conducted in Russian. Registration is open until July 31, 2026.
