On September 1, 2021, a consultation on expanding the capacity of the Madrid System for the International Registration of Trademarks in terms of improving the language representation was organized by the Secretariat of the World Intellectual Property Organization.
On behalf of the National Center of Intellectual Property the event was attended by the Head of the International Registrations Division of the Trademarks Department Halina Liutava and Head of the International Cooperation Division Arthur Akhramenka. The participants discussed the prospects for the use of the Russian language in the Madrid System in order to facilitate the international application filing procedure for Russian-speaking applicants.
Representatives of our region are active users of the Madrid System, and the introduction of the Russian language would activate the business processes carried out by IP offices, improve the quality of their services, as well as expand the target audience among those interested in trademark registration due to making the benefits of this system more accessible.
