Leanid Dubar was born on August 18, 1925 in Mogilev. At the age of sixteen, he met the Great Patriotic War. As part of the troops of the 39th Army of the 3rd Belorussian Front, scout Leanid Dubar traveled through Belarus, Lithuania, Poland, East Prussia, and Manchuria. He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War II class, the medals В«For CourageВ», В«For the Capture of KГ¶nigsbergВ», В«For the Victory over JapanВ», В«For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic WarВ».
In 1955, L. Dubar graduated from the Crimean Regional Art School (now the Crimean Art School named after N. Samokish), then in 1961 from the Belarusian Theater and Art Institute (now the Belarusian State Academy of Arts). Graduation thesis – «The Brave Four» (supervisor V. Tsvirka).
From 1961 to 1978 he taught at the Minsk Art School (now the Minsk State Art College named after A. Glebov). In 1966, he became a member of the Belarusian Union of Artists.
Leanid Dubar's painting is characterized by a steady manner of writing, a desire to convey a light-air environment combined with a chamber manner of execution. Among the works: plot-thematic paintings В«On the Roads of WarВ» (1957), В«On the RoadВ», В«In a Moment of RestВ» (both 1962), В«The AlarmВ», В«Torpedo AttackВ» (both 1963), a series of pastels В«The Great Patriotic WarВ» (1962-1964), lyrical landscapes В«Near the pierВ» (1963), В«In the bayВ» (1964), В«Lonely treeВ» (1968).
The name of L. Dubar is also known in the field of book graphics. He designed the books В«Happy RoadВ» (1958) by A. Aleksandrovich, В«The Boy in Big ShoesВ» by L. Proksha (1963), В«Don't Run from an EarthquakeВ» (1969), В«The Staff of MstsislavВ» (1971) E. Yalugina, В«At the call of the heartВ» (1974) N. Alyakseeva, В«The girl went to warВ» (1976) M. Homolka.
Part of Leanid Dubar's creative heritage is kept in the museum funds of Belarus: paintings, numerous graphic letters, book and magazine illustrations.
