Seventh day of the WIPO Summer School

On June 4, the seventh day of the World Intellectual Property Organization Summer School (Summer School) took place.

During the event, the following reports were presented and discussions were held on the topic «Modern global challenges in the field of intellectual property»:

• Intellectual property, green technologies and climate change issues: problems and challenges (Dmitry Kalinin, consultant, project manager in the field of climate change and food security, specialist in the Global Challenges Department, Global Challenges and Partnerships Sector, World Intellectual Property Organization);
• Panel discussion: Intellectual property and public health: problems and challenges (Elena Usacheva, Head of the Industrial Property Examination Department of the National Center of Intellectual Property, Natalya Makeeva, Executive Director of the Association of International Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, Galina Vashuk, patent attorney of the Republic of Belarus, Head of the Patent Practice of LLC «LEXPATENT», Daria Lando, Ph.D. in Law, Associate Professor of the Department of Civil Law of the Faculty of Law of the Belarusian State University, Head of the Legal Department of LLC «LEKSPATENT»);
• Legal regulation of genetic resources and traditional knowledge associated with them in the Republic of Belarus (Elena Makeeva, Ph.D. in Biology, Associate Professor, Head of the National Coordination Center for Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit Sharing, State Scientific Institution “Institute of Genetics and Cytology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus”. Control point for monitoring the use of genetic resources in the Republic of Belarus, National coordinator for the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol in the Republic of Belarus);
• NLA and TNLA in the field of biosafety of genetic engineering activities (Galina Mozgova, Ph.D. in Biology, Associate Professor, member of the expert groups of the Convention on Biological Diversity on synthetic biology, risk assessment of GMOs, etc., Head of the National Coordination Center for Biosafety at the State Scientific Institution «Institute of Genetics and Cytology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus»);
• Traditional knowledge and folklore texts as a separate and special object of intellectual property (Tatiana Volodina, folklorist, Doctor of Philology, Head of the Department of Folklore and Culture of Slavic Peoples of the state scientific institution «Center for Research of Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature of the National Academy of Sciences»);
• The system for the protection of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) in the Republic of Belarus: issues of protecting the rights of ICC bearers (Elena Kalinovskaya, Leading Specialist at the Institute for Advanced Studies and Retraining of Personnel of the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts);
• Strengthening the national food security of the Republic of Belarus based on the use of intellectual activity results (Natalia Kireenko, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Head of the Department of Innovative Development of the Agro-Industrial Complex, Institute for Advanced Training and Retraining of Personnel of the Agro-Industrial Complex, Belarusian State Agrarian Technical University);
• Using the intellectual property potential to solve problems of national food security (Svetlana Kondratenko, Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor, Deputy Director for Scientific Work of the state enterprise «Institute of System Research in Agro-Industrial Complex of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus»).
