On September 20, the Republic of Belarus traditionally celebrates the professional holiday of customs officials – Customs Officers’ Day. Over the years since independence, the customs service has become an integral pillar of the country’s economic and national security. Today, the work of customs officers extends beyond the control of goods in transit and the collection of duties: one of the most important areas of their work has become the protection of intellectual property rights.

Against a backdrop of rapid technological development, steady growth in global trade and integration processes, Belarus is actively improving its regulatory framework and mechanisms for combating infringements of rights holders’ rights. The main task of the Belarusian customs service in this regard is to detect and prevent the import and export of counterfeit goods, as well as to take proactive measures to prevent the unlawful use of intellectual property.
