Every year on May 5, Belarus celebrates the Press Day - a professional holiday of journalists, editors, publishers, printers and all those who are connected with printed publications.
The date was not chosen by chance: on this day the first issue of В«PravdaВ» newspaper was published in 1912 and the first Slavic calendar В«ChronologyВ» by Andrei Rymsha was published in 1581 (Ostrog printing house of Ivan Fedorov).
There are also many significant dates in the history of the Belarusian press. In 1517 Francysk Skorina published the “Psalter” in Prague, which became the first printed book for the Eastern Slavs. From the XIX century the first periodicals in the Belarusian language appeared: the newspaper «Gutarka dvuh susedau» was published in four issues in 1861-1862, «Gutarka» and «Muzytskaya prauda» - in 1862-1863.
Currently, the oldest periodicals in the Republic of Belarus are the newspapers В«ZvyazdaВ» and В«SB. Belarus TodayВ».
Since 1998 the National Center of Intellectual Property has been publishing a scientific and practical journal В«Intellectual Property in BelarusВ» to inform the society about the intellectual property system in the country and abroad. The journal promotes the development of scientific activities in the field of protection and management of industrial property, copyright and related rights, as well as provides official information on the activities of the NCIP.
We congratulate all employees of print media, journalists, correspondents, photo reporters, publishers and printers on Press Day. We wish you inspiration, creative ideas and successful projects!
