The 18th meeting of the Working Group on the Legal Development of the Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks took place in Geneva on October 12-16. The Working Group is one of the working bodies of the World Intellectual Property Organization.
The meeting was held in a hybrid format (offline and online).
During the session the following issues were considered:
amending the Regulations Under the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks (Regulations);
new means of trademarks representation;
partial replacement of the national or regional registration of trademarks with an international registration;
cost implications and technical feasibility of gradual introduction of the Arabic, Chinese and Russian languages into the Madrid system.
As a result of the discussion, it was decided to make a number of amendments to the Regulations, as well as to continue discussion of certain issues at the next session of the Working Group.
The delegation of the Republic of Belarus took an active part in the meeting of the Working Group.
The National Center of Intellectual Property was represented by the Head of the International Registration Division of the Trademarks Department, Galina Liutava.
