Library Day of the Republic of Belarus

15 september 2025

Interesting

Every year on September 15, Belarus celebrates Library Day – a holiday of all those whose lives are inextricably linked with books, knowledge and enlightenment. The date was established by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus in 2001 and is timed to coincide with the founding of the National Library of Belarus, the country’s main cultural and information center.

Libraries preserve historical memory, contribute to the education and spiritual development of society, and, in the conditions of the digital era, successfully master new technologies, providing access to electronic resources and online services.

A special place in the country’s library system is occupied by the the Republican Library for Science and Technologies (RLST), the largest specialised information centre in the field of science and technology. It holds a collection of over 59 million publications, patent documents, industrial catalogues, and technical normative legal acts, all essential for the development of innovations and scientific research. Every year, the services of the RLST and its branches are used by more than half a million readers, as well as over 2,000 enterprises and organisations.

We congratulate library workers and all book lovers on this holiday! May new discoveries and exciting literary journeys lie ahead!
