First geographical indication registered in Russia

On December 10, 2020 Rospatent registered the first geographical indication in the history of Russia “SHUISKOYE SOAP” for the product category “cosmetic hygienic washing products: solid handmade toilet soap”.
The entity filing the application No. 2020741338 (filing date 08/03/2020) was SHUISKOYE MILO LLC, which produces soap in the city of Shuya, Ivanovo region.
On July 27, 2020, the Federal Law No. 230-FZ of July 26, 2019 entered into force, according to which a new intellectual property object was set in the Civil Code of the Russian Federation which is “a geographical indication”.
