Since 2001 – Director of the Institute of Flax of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
I. Golub's scientific works are in the field of plant variety breeding and development of technologies for the cultivation and processing of a long-fibered flax and oil flax. The scientist initiated scientific research on the breeding of the long-fibered flax varieties of various ripeness groups, resistant to lodging and damage by major diseases, with high fiber quality, as well as in such new areas as the development and introduction of molecular biochemical methods of genetic analysis into the long-fibered flax breeding process; the study of methods for selecting long-fibered flax forms with high-quality fiber at the initial stages of breeding.
With the participation of Ivan Golub, 10 varieties of long-fibered flax, 5 varieties of oil flax were created, 6 varieties of long-fibered flax and 3 varieties of oil flax were zoned in the Russian Federation. Scientists have developed an improved seed production system for domestic flax varieties in order to accelerate their recovery.
He is the author of more than 270 scientific papers, including 11 monographs. He developed technologies for the use of new complexes of trace elements with growth regulators, the use of liquid complex forms (containing chelate) for long-fibered flax and oil flax, and a system for protecting flax crops from calcium chlorosis.; a set of recommendations on the inlay of flax seeds, the rational use of the new forms of complex fertilizers, the use of microbiological preparations for seed treatment and seedling of flax, contributing to the production of high-quality flax (flax straw treated thermally, biologically or chemically).
I. Golub was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor (1988) and several medals. Award of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (2013) for the cycle of works "Innovative Technologies of Flax Cultivation in the Republic of Belarus". He holds the title of Honorary Doctor of the Belarusian Agricultural Academy.
