The name of Doctor of Art History, Professor Yuri Alekseevich Egorov is inextricably linked with the history of urban planning and architecture in Minsk in the early post-war years, with his research work on urban planning in Belarus.
Yuri Alekseevich Egorov was born on May 23, 1911 in Nizhny Novgorod. He graduated from the Nizhny Novgorod Architectural and Construction College and the Moscow Architectural Institute (1935). In 1944-1948, he was the chief architect of Minsk. In 1949-1954, he was the head of the architectural and construction sector of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR, and also worked as a teacher at the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute. In 1951, Y. Egorov defended his doctoral thesis in Moscow on the topic В«urban development of cities of the BSSRВ».
Yuri Alekseevich Egorov is one of the participants in the development of projects and development of the central square of Minsk, the main avenue (now Independence Avenue), Sovetskaya Street. The first post-war master plan of Minsk (1946) was developed at the Belgosproekt Institute by a team of architects M. Androsov and N. Trakhtenberg with the participation of the city's chief architect Yu. Egorov and the consultations of famous Moscow architects V. Semenov and M. Polyakov.
Yuri Egorov participated in the development of other Minsk building projects. In later years, he published a number of studies on urban planning in Belarus: В«Urban Planning of BelarusВ» (Moscow, 1954), В«Architecture and urban planning of Soviet BelarusВ» (Minsk, 1957, co-authored); В«Ensemble in urban planning of the USSR: essaysВ» (Moscow, 1961).
Awarded medals: В«For the Defense of MoscowВ» (1943), В«For the victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945В» (1945), В«For valiant labor in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945В».
