Belarus persons and events: Ivan Baboedov

Ivan Boboedov was born on February 28, 1925 in the village of Bobino, Vitebsk region. Graduated from Simferopol art school named after M. S. Samokish (1948), Minsk art school named after A. Glebov (1952), art-graphic faculty of S. M. Kirov Vitebsk Pedagogical Institute (1976). Participant of various art exhibitions since 1955, taught drawing and painting at the Vitebsk Art and Graphic Pedagogical School, worked as a decorator in the art studio of G. P. Beshenkovichi (since 1955). P. Beshenkovichi (since 1968).

During the Great Patriotic War he fought in the 71st Guards Rifle Division (1944-1945). He was awarded two battle orders and the medal «For Bravery». Member of the Belarusian Union of Artists since 1981. Awarded a medal of the Belarusian Union of Artists (2002).

Ivan worked mainly in easel painting. The main place in his work belongs to the lyrical landscapes painted from nature, including «Sunny Day in February» (1950), Greening Willow in the vegetable garden», «Early May» (1954), «evening on the marsh» (1957), ‘the last snow in the village of Baboedovo’ (1982), ‘evening forest’ (1988), ‘Forest over the river’, ‘pine’ (all 1989), ‘autumn in the village’ (1994), ‘blossoming pears’ (1998) and others. He also painted icons for the church in the village of Baboedovo, Beshenkovichi district («Apostles Peter and Paul», «Ilya the Prophet» (1954-1957), etc.). The artist's paintings are characterized by a realistic manner of execution, chamber, plastic restraint, emotional expressiveness of the image.
