Irina Zhdanovich (born September 27, 1906 in Minsk) - Prima of the Kupalov Theater in the mid-20th century, People's Artist of Belarus, daughter of the founder and first artistic director of BDT-1 F. P. Zhdanovich, friend and wife of the outstanding dramatic artist of this theater B. Platonov. For many years Irina Zhdanovich brought joy to the fans of Belarusian theater art with her expressive and temperamental performance.

Irina Florianovna was brought to the stage by her father. At the age of 11 he entrusted her with the role of a boy in his production of «scattered nest» by J. Kupala. Kupala, and since 14 years she was already on the staff of the Belarusian State Theater. In the first years of her work in the theater I. Zhdanovich played many roles of boys.

The right to be a dramatic actress brought Irina Zhdanovich the role of Marylka from «Batkivshchyna» by K. Cherniy. This role became not only a milestone in her work, but also distinguished I. Zhdanovich in a number of leading actors of the theater. A significant milestone in the creative biography of the actress was the role of Anya from the play by A. Mauzon «Konstantin Zaslonov», for which she was awarded the State Prize of the USSR (1948). This episodic role performed by Irina Florianovna became one of the most vivid in the play.

I. Zhdanovich's repertoire was wide and varied. The actress performed the roles of her contemporaries, revealed the spiritual world of the heroines of A. Ostrovsky, U. Shakespeare, G. Ibsen, Lope de Vega. Already being a leading actress of the theater, she played Shakespeare's Juliet. A separate place in the work of the actress took Gorky images. In Gorky's play «The Last» she played one of his best roles - Vera Kolomiitseva. This role was a triumph of the actress, brought her to the All-Union stage. Also I. Zhdanovich brilliantly performed the role of Sophia in the psychological drama of M. Gorky's «Zykova». Of the images created by the actress on the Kupalov stage, we can call the aunt from «The Happiness of the poet» V. Vitka, Nora from the play of the same name by G. Ibsen, Anna Karenina from the play of the same name on the novel by Leo Tolstoy and others.

The actress's acting abilities helped her in her directing work. The first performance, which she staged on the Kupalovskaya stage, - a play-tale «scarlet flower» I. Karnauhova and L. Brausevich, in which Zhdanovich-director solved the eternal theme of the struggle between good and evil. Under her leadership staged «Tanya» A. Arbuzov and «twenty years later» M. Svetlov. In the work of director I. Zhdanovich well manifested her abilities as a teacher, which she successfully realized in the Belarusian Theatre and Art Institute, where she worked from 1962 to 1969. To art Irina Florianovna Zhdanovich treated as a holy service and left its unique mark on the Kupalovskoy stage.
