World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Director General Daren Tang reported that in 15 years, investments in intangible assets have grown three times more than in tangible assets. Last year they reached almost 7 trillion dollars.
«Innovation itself is evolving and changing, with digital innovation gaining importance and merging with industrial innovation. The line between hardware and software is blurring. Almost a third of all patents granted today relate to digital technologies. This trend is set to continue, with an increasing number of patents relating to generative artificial intelligence», – noted D. Tang.

In his presentation, he also emphasized that today, the role of intellectual property (IP) has become significant, so IP can no longer be considered as a separate legal segment. IP is a set of intangible assets that are used by businesses for growth and by countries for development.
«All of these changes in innovation, technology and creativity are taking place in a world that is increasingly divided geopolitically. Agreements have become difficult to reach, and our ability to set global standards and norms has slowed significantly. However, while consensus has become harder to achieve, it has not disappeared», – commented D. Tang.
