Vitaly Nikolaevich Nikandrov was born on August 4, 1949 in Lida (Grodno region). In 1971 he graduated from the Veterinary Faculty of the Vitebsk Veterinary Institute. He worked as a laboratory assistant at the bacteriological department of the district veterinary laboratory of the town (Vitebsk region). In 1975, he completed postgraduate studies in biochemistry at the Belarusian Scientific Research Veterinary Institute. Since 1975, he worked at the Belarusian Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Ministry of Health of the BSSR as a junior (1975), senior (1975-1978) researcher, head of the laboratory and department (1978-2008).

He defended his PhD thesis in biochemistry on the topic «The effect of chlorophenoxyacids on the activity of certain enzymes of carbohydrate-energy metabolism in the animal body» (BSU. Lenin, 1975). In 1989, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic «Streptokinase. Structural and functional properties»(Peoples' Friendship University, Moscow). Professor of Biochemistry (1995).

Since 1998, V. Nikandrov has worked as the head of the Laboratory of Regulatory Proteins and Peptides at the Institute of Physiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. From 2013 to 2017 - Head of the Department of Chemistry of the Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after M. Tank. From September 2017 to the present – Professor of the Department of Biotechnology at Polessky State University.

For many years, Vitaly Nikandrov has been a member of the General Meeting of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Council on Biotechnology at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Board of the Belarusian Biochemical Society, a member of the editorial boards of the journals «News of Biomedical Sciences» and «Izvestia of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Series of Medical Sciences», Expert Council of the Belarusian Republican Foundation for Basic Research, member of the Republican Expert Council on school curricula at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Chairman of the Expert Council of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Belarus.

Vitaly Nikandrov is the author of 15 copyright certificates and more than 45 patents for inventions (including co-authorship). He was awarded the badge «Inventor of the USSR» (1986), the diploma of the first degree of the VDNH of the BSSR (1988), the prize of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (2003). Honorary Professor of the Vitebsk State Academy of Veterinary Medicine (2013).
