On June 24, 2026, the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus considered and adopted in the draft Law of the Republic of Belarus «On Amendments to Legislation on the Legal Protection of Intellectual Property Rights» was adopted in the second reading.

Aliaksei Kurman, Director General of the National Center of Intellectual Property, took part in the meeting of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus. He thanked the House of Representatives for the fruitful and constructive cooperation in reviewing the draft Law at the stage of the House of Representatives and noted the main innovations envisaged by this draft.


The amendments contained in the draft Law, in particular, provide for:

  • reducing the time required for the patent authority to perform certain legally significant actions in the framework of administrative procedures;
  • reduction of documents required to obtain legal protection of industrial property rights;
  • specification and unification of regulations on official objects of industrial property law;
  • expansion of cases of free use of objects of copyright and related rights;
  • the possibility of issuing compulsory licenses in relation to objects of copyright and related rights;
  • bringing the terminology of all six special laws in the field of intellectual property in line with the terminology of the Civil Code of the Republic of Belarus.
