Officially

Every year on the second Sunday of May, the Republic of Belarus celebrates the Day of the State Flag, State Emblem and State Anthem, established by Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus dated March 26, 1998, No. 157. This year, the holiday falls on May 10.

The National Flag, National Emblem and National Anthem are symbols of our country as a sovereign state, reflecting political autonomy and independence, the history of formation and development, and national identity.

The standard of the State Emblem and the Regulations on the State Flag were approved by Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus following the results of the national referendum held on May 14, 1995, where one of the issues was the establishment of state symbols. The emblem's wreath of golden rye ears, intertwined with clover and flax flowers, and entwined with a red and green ribbon, embodies the best qualities of the Belarusian people: hard work, aspiration for freedom, and patriotism.

The red color on our flag is the color of the banners of the Red Army and the Belarusian partisans who liberated their native land from the Nazi invaders. Green is the color of forests and fields, a symbol of spring, hope, and rebirth. The white color and pattern reflect the spiritual purity of Belarusians.

Few people know that designations representing the State Emblem and/or the State Flag may be included in a trademark as unprotected elements. Consent for such inclusion is granted by the State Committee on Science and Technology based on the Law of the Republic of Belarus of February 5, 1993, No. 2181-XII "On Trademarks and Service Marks" and in accordance with the procedure established by Resolution No. 512 of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus of August 28, 2020.
