On July 9, 2024, Uladzimir Rabavolau, Director General of the National Center of Intellectual Property (NCIP), delivered a general statement at the 65th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
In his speech Mr. Rabavolau noted that cooperation between Belarus and WIPO remains a priority and maintains its intensity:
– Our country is committed to the development of the innovation component of the national economy through the creation of conditions for creativity and innovation. Both internal and external factors influence the achievement of this goal. Unfortunately, today we continue to face destructive policies of a number of states, which is manifested by sanctions pressure and attempts to politicize the activities of international organizations.
Director General emphasized that this, in turn, hinders the full use of the potential of the intellectual property system by applicants who seek to become part of the international scientific, technical and economic community:
– Most importantly, it poses a real threat to the fundamental principles of the global intellectual property system. In this context, it is more important than ever to maintain a professional multilateral dialog based on the principles of openness and equal participation of all parties. Only in this way will we be able to develop a balanced solution in building an effective global intellectual property system. For our part, we reaffirm our readiness to continue to make every effort to strengthen WIPO's mandate and to build a constructive dialogue with all Member States of the organization.
The 65th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO takes place from July 9 to 17, 2024, in Geneva, Switzerland.
