U. Rabavolau: «Combating the turnover of counterfeited products allows to stimulate inventive activity and creates safe conditions for the development of business»

On December 5-6, 2024, Astana hosts the XII International Forum «Anti-Counterfeiting-2024» dedicated to countering illicit trafficking of industrial products, including the protection of intellectual property rights.

Uladzimir Rabavolau, Director General, and Dmitry Andryieuski, Head of the Department for Commercialization Support and State Registries, participate in the seminar from the National Center of Intellectual Property (the NCIP).

During the plenary session of the forum U. Rabavolau delivered a welcoming speech on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Belarus.

One of the key topics of the forum is joint efforts to fight counterfeit products. «The fight against counterfeit goods and intellectual property protection issues have always been interrelated. To counter the counterfeit successfully, it is important to accumulate efforts not only of patent offices, but also of law enforcement, customs authorities, as well as the private sector», - emphasized the Director General of the NCIP.

Specific achievements in this area were also discussed. U. Rabavolau reported a significant increase in the number of cases considered by the Board of Appeal: «In 2023, the number of cases received increased by 173% compared to 2022. The judicial authorities considered 37 administrative protocols drawn up by law enforcement agencies, which is 73% less than in 2022, indicating the implementation of effective measures to suppress counterfeit goods».

Concluding his speech, the Director General emphasized that intellectual property protection not only contributes to the fight against counterfeiting, but also creates conditions for business: «The fight against the turnover of counterfeit products allows to stimulate inventive activity and creates a safe environment for the development of entrepreneurship».
