The World Intellectual Property Organization announced the theme for International Intellectual Property Day 2026: «IP and Sports: Ready, Set, Innovate».

It is impossible to imagine the modern world of sport without cutting-edge equipment, gear, and unique team brands that create unforgettable sporting moments. Intellectual property (IP) plays a key role in protecting and promoting inventions, industrial designs and trademarks, serving as a driving force that inspires athletes and unites fans worldwide.

Sport is not just about competition: it is deeply connected to fashion, entertainment, media, health, the gaming industry, and consumer goods. Different types of IP not only stimulate innovation but also create cross-sector links that contribute to creative development, technological progress, and economic growth.

World Intellectual Property Day 2026 aims to highlight how creativity and innovation, underpinned by IP rights, contribute to shared prosperity, dynamic development and the accessibility of sport for all.
