Dear veterans! Dear colleagues! I would like to cordially congratulate you on the great national holiday – Victory Day!

This year, the Republic of Belarus celebrates the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War.

Victory Day is one of the most honored holidays in Belarus. For millions of people, it has become an eternal testimony to the valor of the peoples who gave the world life and freedom.

Eighty years separate us from that spring, but the memory of the Great Patriotic War lives in every town and village, passed down from generation to generation. The Great Patriotic War left an indelible mark on the lives of millions of Belarusians. Every year, there are fewer and fewer participants of that terrible war, but we will never forget their feat, which is important for the entire world history.

We must not forget that the victory was achieved by selfless work in the home front, including scientific and technological developments. The intellectual efforts of Belarusian Soviet scientists played a key role in providing the battlefront with everything it needed to defeat the enemy. Among our outstanding fellow citizens are Pavel Sukhoi, aircraft designer, creator of many fighters, bombers and other aircraft that have been recognized on the world level; Semion Kosberg, designer, who stood at the origins of Soviet aviation and rocket technology; Yakov Zeldovich, outstanding physicist, creator of gunpowder for the Katyusha and co-author of the nuclear and hydrogen bombs.

We would like to congratulate all the veterans, expressing our sincere gratitude for their generous gift – our life and independence. Today, working faithfully for the good and prosperity of our country, each of us strives to become a worthy heir to the heroes who did not spare themselves in the fight against the enemy on the battlefields and worked in the rear for Victory.

On this memorable day for every Belarusian I wish you strong health, prosperity, success and long life!
