On July 8, 2025, Aliaksei Kurman, Director General of the National Center of Intellectual Property (NCIP), delivered a general statement to the 66th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
In his speech Aliaksei Kurman noted that intellectual property is becoming an increasingly important asset contributing to sustainable development, economic growth and cultural exchange:
– At the national level, we strive to create conditions for innovation and creativity, oriented towards international standards in the provision of intellectual property services. Among the priorities are for Belarusian organizations to obtain the status of an international depository body under the Budapest Treaty and to join the WIPO Digital Access Service for WIPO priority documents (WIPO DAS).
He also emphasized that today it was important to strengthen the capacity of the expert community for the benefit of all users of the global intellectual property system:
– Unfortunately, we continue to face the destructive policy of a number of states, which manifests itself in sanctions pressure and attempts to politicize the activities of international organizations. As a result, applicants cannot fully utilize the opportunities of the global intellectual property system, and its basic principles are threatened. Only by eliminating the politicization of intellectual property will we be able to develop balanced solutions for the development
of innovation in all countries.

The 66th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO takes place from July 8 to 17, 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland.
