On July 8, 2025, on the margins of the 66th series of meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland, the Director General of the National Center of Intellectual Property (NCIP) Aliaksei Kurman met with the Director of the Division for Transition and Developed Countries of WIPO Habip Asan.
Habip Asan highly appreciated the level of development of the national intellectual property (IP) system in Belarus, as well as the active participation of the Belarusian representatives in the WIPO international projects.
Among the significant achievements was the successful completion by the Belarusian side of the pilot project “IP Management Clinics for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) headed by women”. Belarusian specialists also continue their work in the pilot project on enhancing the capacity of technoparks to commercialize the results of intellectual activity in member states, implemented by the Eurasian Patent Organization jointly with WIPO. In recent years, more than 1,600 representatives of Belarus have been trained at the WIPO Academy, which testifies to the high professionalism of the national IP experts.
Habip Asan paid special attention to the activities of NCIP on the promotion of geographical indications, as well as confirmed the readiness of WIPO to provide full support in improving national legislation for the early accession of Belarus to the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement on Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications of May 20, 2015.
Aliaksei Kurman, Director General of NCIP, emphasized that Belarus was and remains a reliable partner of WIPO and will continue to make efforts for effective development of cooperation in the interests of all users
