U. Rabavolau: we observe an increase in the applicant activity in respect of several industrial property rights

Representatives of the National Center of Intellectual Property (NCIP) – Director General Uladzimir Rabavolau and Deputy Head of the Legal and Human Resources Department Natallia Novikova – took part in the regional seminar «Common Expert Space: Topical Issues of Patent Protection», which was held on May 15-16 in Yerevan (Republic of Armenia).
During the event, NCIP Director General U. Rabavolau made a report В«The experience of the NCIP participation as an instrument of intellectual property in innovative developmentВ», emphasizing the desire of Belarus to form a stable national intellectual property system, which can become a full-fledged economic lever for the accelerated innovative and economic development of the country.
В«In the Republic of Belarus there is an increase in applicant activity in respect of several industrial property rights. Thus, 44% more applications were filed for trademarks registration than in the same period (January-April) 2023. Foreign applicants also show a high level of interest, with an increase of 78% in the number of applications filed. Interest in patenting utility models (15% increase), industrial designs (17%), plant varieties (50%) and topologies of integrated circuits is growing,В» noted U. Rabavolau.
Within the framework of the regional seminar the representatives of the IP offices of the member states of the Eurasian Patent Organization and other interested parties discussed topical issues of patenting in the field of pharmaceuticals, computer-implemented inventions containing elements of artificial intelligence, as well as protection of graphic interfaces and technological designs.
